Velvet absorbs light rather than reflecting it — which is why velvet rooms feel warmer and more intimate in autumn and winter light. The Morris prints on velvet have a depth that's impossible in cotton or linen. The pile catches the colour differently depending on angle, which makes the pattern appear to shift as you move around the room.
